Glass-shell Thermistors

Aug 15, 2024

Glass-shell thermistors are an electronic component widely used in temperature detection and control. They are ideal for a variety of applications due to their high precision, stability and durability. This article will introduce the characteristics, working principles and advantages of glass-shell thermistors in practical applications.

Glass-shell thermistors consist of a thermistor chip and a glass shell. The glass shell not only provides good mechanical protection, but also effectively isolates the influence of the external environment on the thermistor, ensuring its stability under harsh conditions.

Features

- High precision: Glass-shell thermistors can provide accurate temperature measurement over a wide temperature range, usually with a temperature accuracy of ±0.1°C or higher.

- Excellent long-term stability: Because the glass package can prevent the intrusion of moisture, dust and other contaminants, glass-shell thermistors show excellent stability in long-term use.

- High temperature resistance: Glass-shell thermistors can work normally at higher temperatures and are suitable for applications that require high temperature environments.

- Chemical corrosion resistance: The glass shell has good chemical corrosion resistance, allowing the thermistor to be used in harsh chemical environments.

Glass thermistors are usually made of NTC (negative temperature coefficient) materials. This means that as the temperature increases, the resistance of the thermistor decreases. By measuring the change in resistance, glass thermistors can accurately reflect the change in temperature.

In NTC thermistors, the resistance value is negatively correlated with the temperature. Glass thermistors usually have a high-precision temperature-resistance relationship curve, which allows them to provide accurate data in temperature control and compensation circuits.

Due to their excellent performance, glass thermistors are widely used in various fields, including but not limited to:

- Household appliances: such as air conditioners, refrigerators and rice cookers, for temperature control and regulation.

- Medical equipment: such as thermometers and blood glucose meters, for accurate measurement of human body temperature.

- Automotive industry: for engine temperature monitoring, exhaust systems and battery management systems.

- Industrial equipment: In production processes that require high-precision temperature measurement, glass thermistors are used to monitor and control temperature.

- Consumer electronics: such as mobile phones, laptops, etc., to prevent equipment from overheating.

Glass-encapsulated thermistors have become important components in the field of temperature measurement and control due to their high accuracy, stability and durability. Whether in household appliances, medical equipment or industrial applications, they have demonstrated excellent performance and reliability. Choosing the right glass-encapsulated thermistor can not only improve the performance of the device, but also extend its service life.
